Però urge sempre di più riconoscere che lo scrivere parole è il latino della nostra epoca moderna, e che il linguaggio ordinario della gente, la vulgata della gente, non è fatta di parole, ma è questo: video e suono.

Un tempo, una volta spedito il testo di un libro all'editore, c'erano da una parte le bozze del testo e dall'altra il menabò, che mostrava come sarebbe stato impostato il libro (vedi articolo Menabò su Wikipedia). Le bozze si suddividevano tra le prime bozze, con il testo in continuo, e le bozze impaginate secondo il menabò.
Nel contratto per il libro, spesso l'editore minacciava multe lievi per correzioni importanti nelle prime bozze, e più care nelle bozze impaginate se le correzioni dovessero cambiare il numero di righe, imponendo una modifica del menabò. Quindi gli autori erano attenti a fornire un testo il più definitivo possibile, e a rileggere molto accuratamente le prime bozze.
Negli anni 80, la diffusione dei programmi numerici di trattamento di testo ha un po' modificato questo percorso: il menabò è sì diventatao automaticamente adattabile al cambiamento nel numero di righe nel testo numerico fornito dall'autore in caso di correzioni dopo la consegna - però il menabò e le correzioni su bozze rimanevano.
Oggi invece, quasi tutti si possono permettere di acquisire trattamenti di testo con possibilità di impaginazione più raffinate che consentono l'editoria fai-da-te (Pages della Apple, ad esempio, ma ci sono anche soluzioni libere e gratuire): gli autori si possono avvalere di un distributore come Lulu.com, dove si carica la versione PDF del libro in una pagina dalla quale gli interessati lo possono ordinare, oppure distribuirloo da soli.
Però per ottenere un libro bello, cioè funzionale, la procedura non è cambiata: prima si finalizzano il contenuto e la struttura logica delle parti e sottoparti; soltanto dopo si inserisce il contenuto nel "menabò". Non va saltata la prima tappa, soprattutto se il testo è lungo e se l'impaginazione è complessa (e ancora di più se ci sono diversi autori). Inserire un contenuto ancora in fieri nell'impaginazione definitiva per vedere come verrà fuori può essere tentante, ma è bloccante - un po' come verniciare e incorniciare una tela dopo il primo schizzo, o mettere nel forno per ore un maialino neonato vivo con una mela nella bocca e il prezzemolo nelle orecchie per vedere come verrà fuori quando sarà abbastanza cresciuto per essere mangiato.

In Calatrava: dichiarazioni alla stampa, Roberto Scano propone il video delle dichiarazioni fatte alla stampa da Santiago Calatrava il 2 settembre 2008. Sotto, in audio con sottotitoli in italiano e inglese (tramite myPlick.com, che consente di sincronizzare una presentazione in diapositive con un file audio), la parte di queste dichiarazioni che riguarda le proteste delle associazioni di disabili. Perché "sottotitoletur et altera pars", ma anche perché così è più facile ritrovare le parole esatte utilizzate in una dichiarazione.

Sì, guarda, uno... queste opere... questa è un'opera pubblica, è un'opera di servizio al pubblico. Noi viviamo in un sistema democratico e plurale.Dunque noi vogliamo a tutti benserviti. Dunque è parte di un processo legale, tecnicoamministrativo, che ha portato alla funzione attuale. E il modello del ponte era a priori; era esposto - i piani, i piani erano esposti, i piani sono stati approvati.
Ci sono state anche diverse decisioni a partire di un atteggiamento della Città presso a.. i cittadini di questa città con i servizi che hanno di taxi per disabili e così via e tante altre cose. Io mi sono adattato a quello che la Città ha deciso di fare col ponte. Quindi il ponte è il riflesso di un modo di capire la città oggi, con i servizi di oggi, entro una giunta comunale, un sindaco e assessori che sono persone democraticamente eletti, dunque dentro un processo plurale.
Per cui io dirò così: guarda, io m'identifico con la soluzione attuale. Lo stesso devo dire che, avendo una esperienza enorme, ho cercato di fare il mio meglio per i disabili. Di fatto ci sono delle osservazioni per le seggiovie. E ho partecipato a tutto questo processo offrendo anche gratuitamente il mio lavoro per - se si potesse fare, o anzi se fosse necessario - modificare il disegno del ponte già molto avviatoDunque già molto avviato, devo dire, perché la polemica non fu fatta al momento giusto.
È questo che io potrei dire. Queste cose bisogna dirle dall'inizio. Mica si è fatto questo ponte - non ha stato mai nascosto. Ha stato esposto alla Piazza di S. Marco per un anno. E ha passato tutti i collaudi e tutte le commissioni che si dovevano passare. Dunque io incoraggerò a queste associazioni di diversamente abili a partecipare molto di più all'inizio in questi processi to participate far more at the start in these processes a modo che noi possiamo scostarle... ascoltarle e prendere la giusta misura di quelle che sono le loro, le loro osservazioni.
In genere, io vi dico, se - ogni volta che vedo vedo un disabile con una carrozzina in strada, mi congratulo che le nostre città siano sempre più accessibilie queste persone possano vivere come dei cittadini di pieno diritto, come sono.

Yes, look, one... these works... this is a public work, a work of public service We live in a pluralistic and democratic system So we want everybody to be well-served. So, it is part of a legal, technical-administrative process that lead to the present functioningi. And the bridge model was a priori, it was exhibited – the blueprints, the blueprints were exhibited, they have been approved.
There have also been several decisions based on an attitude of the Town towards the citizens of this town with the taxi services they have for disabled people and so on and so many other things. I adapted to what the Town decided to do with the bridge. Thus the bridge reflects a way of understanding the town today, with today's services, within a borough council, a mayor and councelors who are democratically elected people, and thus within a pluralistic process.
Therefore I will say: look, I identify with the present solution Nevertheless, I must say that, having a huge experience, I tried to do my best for disabled people. True, there are observation about the chair lifts. And I participated in this whole process, also offering my work graciously in order to – if it were feasible, or rather if it were needed – modify the design of the bridge, already very advanced.
Thus already very advanced, I must say, because the polemics didn't take place at the right moment. These things must be said at the beginning. This bridge wasn't done – it was never hidden. It was exhibited in Piazza S. Marco for a year. And it went through all the tests and commissions that must be gone through.
So I would encourage these associations of differently able people to participate far more at the start in these processes so that we can sideline... listen to them and properly take stock of their observations.
Usually, I tell you, if – every time I see a disabled person in a wheelchair on a street, I rejoice that our towns are more and more accessible. And that these people can live like citizens with full rights, which they are.

And so Venice is going to have its own Calatrava's - or rather Mayor Cacciari's - folly too.
The bridge was meant to be very solemnly inaugurated on Sept. 18, 2008, with the President of the Italian Republic attending. However, this ceremony was cancelled due to the protests of associations of people with disabilities, in particular of the Un ponte per tutti petition, because the bridge violates national accessibility norms, as it includes glass-covered stairs that exclude people in wheelchairs.
In a way, the petition has reached its goal: there won't be a solemn inauguration on Sept. 18. However, Mayor Cacciari, while recognizing the "errors" made in choosing that bridge, has also heaped insults on the associations of people with disabilities for having prevented the ceremony, arrogantly claiming that he hasn't even listened to them ("le associazioni che hanno protestato non le ho nemmeno sentite" - Il Gazzettino di Venezia, quoted in Calatrava: ponte Potëmkin? by Roberto Scano, Aug. 28, 2008).
One way to help Mayor Cacciari understand that his explicit contempt for people with disabilities is not alright might be to go on signing the Un ponte per tutti petition, adding comments. Hence the translation below.

This petition aims at making public administrations sensitive to the respect of norms in force concerning architectural obstacles. Concretely,this petition is about Calatrava's bridge in Venice, the fourth bridge on the Canal Grande due to be inaugurated on September 18, 2008, in the presence of the President of the [Italian] Republic.
With this petition we request that the official inauguration (in the presence of the President) be postponed until the auxiliary means (the so-called "ovovia" [1] inorder to enable people with disabilities to cross the bridge like everybody, i.e. to be able, like all citizens, to use this alternative solution to public transportation (for the journey from the train station to Piazzale Roma, a tourist pays Euro 6.50].
We therefore request from:
the Mayor of Venice, Prof. Massimo Cacciari
the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano
that they postpone the official inauguration in the presence of the President of the Republic until the work is actually usable by all citizens.
This petition does not intend to prevent the opening of the bridge for the citizens, but to only enhance its inauguration when it will actually be accessible (as foreseen, morover, by the norms in force).

Da due giorni seguo gli insulti rivolti dall'onorevole sindaco di Venezia Cacciari alle persone con disabilità, in merito all'inaccessibilità del ponte escogitato dall'architetto Calatrava alle persone in sedia a rotella.
Certo: chi non è mai stato in sedia a rotelle o non ha mai avuto un parente o un amico in sedia a rotelle fa fatica ad immaginare cosa sia un ostacolo architettonico. Certo: Venezia è una bellissima città ma è comunque diffiiclmente agibile in sedia a rotelle, e questo può causare una certà passività mentale nell'affrontare la rimozione degli ostacoli. Errare humanum est, e anche intellettuali di grido come il sindaco di Venezia sono umani (sì sì, onorevole Cacciari)
Però l'onorevole Cacciari vorrebbe fare del ponte inaccessibile alle persone in sedia a rotelle un simbolo, addirittura della Costituzione. Ora come ricorda Roberto Scano in Calatrava: ponte Potëmkin? l'articolo 3 della Costituzione recita:
Tutti i cittadini hanno pari dignità sociale e sono eguali davanti alla legge, senza distinzione di sesso, di razza, di lingua, di religione, di opinioni politiche, di condizioni personali e sociali. È compito della Repubblica rimuovere gli ostacoli di ordine economico e sociale, che, limitando di fatto la libertà e l’eguaglianza dei cittadini, impediscono il pieno sviluppo della persona umana e l’effettiva partecipazione di tutti i lavoratori all’organizzazione politica, economica e sociale del Paese.
Perseverare - come fa l'onorevole Cacciari - diabolicum: da diabolè - divisione, calunnia.

sempre, non ho un lavoro - quasi mai, almeno finora - un lavoro di
lunga gettata o di media gettata, quindi è difficile

il lavoro di un artigiano ha bisogno di una preparazione prima e ha

sono lavori standard. Già... l'edilizia è tutta
preordinata. Per cui se l'elettricista mi dice: "Devo mettere
una presa lì", io so cosa devo preparare per far sì
che lui possa mettere la presa. E non c'è un grosso lavoro di
co... Sì, nei lavori più grossi, più importanti,
sì, c'è un lavoro di coordinazione, che io facevo. Ma

Il 3 novembre 2007, il generale-presidente Musharraf dichiarava uno stato di urgenza che in realtà è una legge marziale. Da allora sono stati arrestati, spesso torturati, migliaia di giuristi, giornalisti, difensori dei diritti umani. I media sono fortemente censurati. I giudici della corte suprema sono stati sostituiti da uomini ligi al governo.
Ieri, giovedì 29 novembre ha rinunciato al suo posto di generale ed è ormai soltanto presidente. Ma poiché prima aveva trasferito il controllo dello stato d'urgenza da sé come generale a sé come presidente, la situazione cambia poco.

Lo stato d'urgenza non è stato una sorpresa completa. Se i media erano apparentemente liberi di criticare il governo prima, gli opponenti, i giornalisti, ma anche semplici cittadini venivano sequestrati, torturati, a volte ammazzati. Tra marzo e luglio - non si sa la data esatta - è stato girato il documentario Missing in Pakistan, con interviste a vittime, ai loro congiunti, a rappresentanti di organizzazioni di difesa dei diritti umani - ma anche al ministro della giustizia e [sic] dei diritti umani, al ministro degli interni e alla portavoce del ministero degli esterni.
Dal 21 novembre, circa, circola via web, e viene promosso dalla società civile pakistanese tramite mailing-list, SMS, semplici e-mail. È in corso la preparazione di una versione sottotitolata in più lingue, fatta da volontari. Qui su Webmultimediale è al momento disponibile la sottotitolazione in italiano, inglese e francese.
